Principal's Message

Island View Families:

The last several weeks of grade-level concerts have been emotionally impactful for all of us. After two long years, parents, grandparents, family members, and friends once again had an opportunity to be in our building and listen to the voices of our students. I saw many smiles and many tears, my own included.

I feel blessed to end the year in ways that normalize our students’ experiences. We have field trips planned; we will have a scaled-down talent show featuring our older students; we will once again have our all-school picnic and field day; and we will celebrate the 5th graders with a “Moving Up” ceremony. School life is good, indeed.

As many of you know, I recently interviewed for the high school principal position. As I have said to my staff, I did not apply for the position because I wanted to leave Island View. Rather, I applied to continue to push myself into new challenges, and I did so through rigorous interviews and a public forum. I am very proud of myself for approaching the entire process with hard work, commitment, and authenticity. These are core values I try to live by every day and traits I want to model for your students, whom I cherish. Ultimately, it feels good to be staying home at Island View.

As we move into summer, please take time to breathe and savor experiences with your amazing children. Time is short — embrace every moment. Play games together, watch good movies, spend time outside, and read! Read to your students and have them read to you. Play counting games in the car and practice addition and subtraction in the grocery store.

In short — have fun!

See you in the fall.

Brian

5th Grade Graduation

We want to continue the tradition of making our graduating 5th grade Eagles feel celebrated before they head off to become AMS Hawks, but we need help!

If you would be interested in helping to plan the 5th Grade Graduation Ceremony, please email Eric Mithen!

News from the Island View Garden

Over the summer, families are invited to help water the garden and harvest anything that's ready during the week you are watering.

You can sign up for that here: Garden Water and Harvest Sign-Up.

Thank you for your help!

Safe Routes to School

/uploads/saferoutes graphic.jpg

Safe Routes to School is a program that promotes walking and bicycling to school through infrastructure improvements, enforcement tools, safety education, and incentives.

These initiatives improve safety during school commutes in the larger community and in the vicinity of schools; a secondary benefit is a natural increase to student physical activity levels.

As with so many things, this program has languished with COVID, but as school routines return to normal, we're looking for volunteers to help make safety a priority and encourage more kids to walk and bike to school (reducing traffic around town and Island View).

Past activities include a bike assessment and repair clinic and a helmet fitting/give away, plus incentives for walking and biking to school.

We're hoping to start these again next fall, and are looking for volunteers to help with these activities.

Safe Routes kicked off with a very successful Walk and Wheel event in late May. See if you can find your Eagle below!

Please reach out to the PTA President if you're interested in helping with this important program.

ISV Support Opportunities

Fundraising

It's easy to help the Island View PTA raise funds even in the summer, via shopping you're probably already doing! Every little bit counts!

These include Box Tops and Amazon Smile.

In fact, so far this year, we've earned $53.30 through Box Tops and over $75 through Amazon Smile!

Instructions on how to participate in each of these programs - at no additional cost to your family - are below.
