Principal's Message

Island View Families:

Happy New Year! I hope your family enjoyed the holiday snow that fell on Anacortes the first week of winter break. I fondly remember sledding with my own sons at Island View when they were students here—how time flies. That said, I also hope you created many lasting memories with your children over the winter break.

January tends to be a quiet month. It’s a time when staff review procedures and routines with students and turn their attention fully toward teaching and learning. Next month will bring additional activities with report cards and winter conferences. But until then, enjoy the quiet😊.

In keeping with the quiet season, I will end my message briefly. Please contact me with your questions, concerns, and suggestions at bhanrahan@asd103.org or at 360-503-1490.

I look forward to reconnecting with Island View families in the New Year.

Brian Hanrahan

ClassACT - Island View Play – That's My Crown!

Jan 5th through Jan 20th, assorted times

It's time for the Season Award. These aren't the TV season awards; they are awards given to the seasons! It's a tough competition this year, as the Winter Dwarves, the Spring Fairies, the Autumn Elves and the Summer Trees all present the most exciting stories that happened in their kingdoms. This year, each season tries to win with a royal adventure story: The Ice Queen, The Mismatched Prince, The Elf Queen's Jester and The Accidental King. Which season will win this year's Seasonal Crown?

All rehearsals will take place at Island View Elementary School from January 5th through 19th with performances on the 20th. At the end of the program, we will be performing the original play, That's My Crown!, on the Island View stage. Sign-ups happened in December and parents of participating students have been notified. Please remember, your child must be at all the rehearsals and performances. Rehearsals will be January 5, 6, 9, 10, 11, 12, 17, 18, and 19 from 3:45 - 4:45 for K - 2nd and 3:45-5:45 for 3rd - 5th. 2:45-3:45 for K - 2nd on Wednesdays, and 2:45 - 4:45 for 3-5th on Wednesdays. The two performances will be January 20th at 2:00pm for the school performance and January 20th at 7:00pm for the public performance.

Volunteering for ClassACT

This program relies on volunteers to help with rehearsals and performances. Many spots have already been filled, but we could always use an extra set of hands, and we really need volunteers for the day of the performances. Please check out the volunteer duties and sign up to volunteer! :) Volunteers must be approved by the school district by signing up HERE.

A Simple Gesture Grant for Island View

Recently, the school received a grant from A Simple Gesture for Island View students to get snacks in the classrooms (it's a limited amount, so this doesn't cover snacks every day). While this sounds simple, it takes some coordination to get snacks for 440 kids!

We need someone to step up and volunteer to help or coordinate this, we'd love to hear from you. Please email vicepresident@islandviewpta.org and/or president@islandviewpta.org.

Morning Reading & Math Assistance

The PTA has been approached about assisting with an initiative for early morning reading and math assistance for Island View students. At the onset, we will keep the program to no more than six students in the library on a given day. Volunteers will work with students in grades K-5 on reading or math (depending on what the student needs support in).

Details / Volunteering time requirements:
Time: 8:30 - 9:05
Where: ISV Library
Who: K-5 students
What: Reading or Math Support
Contact: Monica Frost at mfrost@asd103.org

If interested, please reach out to Ms. Frost and let her know what age/grade level child you would prefer to work with, a subject preference, and a preferred day of the week.

Restaurant Takeover @ Pizza Factory

Thurs, Jan 26th, 5-7pm

Come join Island View staff, students, families and friends at Pizza Factory for a "Restaurant Take-Over" Thursday, January 26th from 5 to 7 PM. We will eat delicious pizza, win prizes and support the programs of Island View Elementary PTA! Every pizza, salad bar, drink, or food item order we place that night, a percentage will be donated to the Island View Elementary PTA! We will be in the dining room, but this offer also works for delivery or pick-up.

Hospitality Update

The very busy elves from Hospitality were gathering, making and assembling holiday cheer to spread with treat boxes that were delivered to the entire school staff on December 12th! These wonderful treat boxes were filled with love! Thank you so very much to everyone who donated their time with baking and crafting! Each box had homemade baked goods, hand crafted ornaments, and decadent treats! What a special event to be a part of! Special thanks to Nicole Johnston, Stephanie Downey, Kristen Lamb, and Amber Fry.

Holiday Treat Boxes for School Staff

The next big event for Hospitality will be in February! We will be catering another hearty meal for our hard working teachers at their late night conference evening! We will start to plan this shortly after the New Year, please email hospitality@islandviewpta.org if you have any questions or are interested in helping!

Spirit Week

Mon - Fri, Feb 27 - Mar 3

The PTA is working hard to create opportunities for our kids to make amazing memories. One of the ways is by organizing a Spirit Week in February and we would love your ideas and assistance to raise Island View spirit and camaraderie!

Some of the ideas being considered are: having the classes wear different colors on different days, a day where kids get to wear Island View logo wear or Island View Colors (blue and gold), a “change race” between classes to see who can raise the most money (and 50% of the proceeds will go to a charity that our Eagles get to vote on), and a food drive (this may coincide with the 100th day food drive).

If you have other ideas, we’d love to hear about it! Please contact us at vicepresident@islandviewpta.org. The full gamut of ideas will be presented at the January PTA meeting so if you want to hear about it or offer suggestions, please join us at the PTA meeting.

ISV PTA Meeting

Island View parents, please join us for the first PTA meeting of 2023.

Location: Will be held at the ISV library. We will post a zoom link for those that can attend virtually. Keep your eye out for additional information on the PTA Facebook page.

If there are any events that you know of or speak to your creativity, skills or passion, please consider signing up to volunteer at a PTA event. Please join us to make our kids' school experience the best it can be!

Island View 2022-2023 Yearbook

Efforts to put together the year will be starting in the next month or so. If you snapped a great picture of your Island View student participating in a school event, please share it with us! It is never too early to start sending pictures of your eagle to the PTA, so we can make sure we get everyone in the year book. If you captured some great pics at one of the winter concerts, at the nutcracker field trip, or at the senior center while our students volunteered, please consider submitting them to the yearbook!

Images can be sent to yearbook@islandviewpta.org.
