Principal's Message

Island View Families:

It is hard to believe that our pumpkin and jack-o-lantern artwork is being replaced by turkeys in our hallways and classroom windows. One little turkey in the north hallway even dons a Santa suit. The holidays are approaching quickly.

While the holiday season is filled with joy, it also brings added stress with family obligations, heightened expectations, and even memories of loss. Please take care of yourself first. Rest when you need a pause. Breathe deeply and laugh lots. Children look to adults to know how they should navigate stressful situations. Children also thrive with routines—so maintain school and sleep schedules. Enjoy time with your children reading books, playing games, watching movies, and enjoying meals together. Use the time to create memories that will sustain you throughout the year.

As the calendar year ends and we all take stock of our blessings, I am once again humbled by our school community. Your students inspire me daily. Recently, for instance, I had the following exchange with a second grader regarding a read-aloud I posted:

"Mr. Hanrahan, I loved The Sandwich Swap! What was your favorite part of the book?"

"Hmmmmm," I thought, "I think my favorite part was when they tasted each other's sandwich and loved them."

"That was my favorite part, too!" A hug around my legs ensued.

What I loved about the exchange was a 7-year-old asked me the question. Your students are amazing little people—smart, curious, and kind. I am honored to be your principal. As always, please contact me at bhanrahan@asd103.org or at 360-503-1490 with your questions, concerns, and suggestions.

In Thanksgiving,
Brian Hanrahan

Loops for Learning

We are walking in circles so you don't have to!

This January 1, 2022 PTA President Eric Mithen will spend 24 HOURS walking (maybe even jogging) a one mile loop around Island View Elementary School to raise funds for our PTA. Local businesses will be supporting him, and you can too!

Please see the Loops for Learning page on the PTA website to donate!

Every cent of your donations pay for learning enhancements such as Scholastic magazine subscriptions, theater programs, the school garden, "I love to read" month, and the little things like snacks and clean clothes for sick kids in the nurse's office.

Donations are tax deductible.

Island View Supports ASF

Island View PTA is proud to support the Anacortes Schools Foundation. Our PTA donated three lovely baskets to the ASF Celebrate the Season auction, and all funds raised through this auction go directly back to support Anacortes schools and students!

We are proud of ALL Anacortes students and staff!

Read more about the wonderful things going on throughout our school district in the fall edition of Anacortes Pride. See how many ISV students, faculty, and staff you can find in there!

PTA Dollars At Work

Did you know that Island View PTA pays for the reception at the 5th grade graduation celebration? We love providing support for this milestone as the 5th graders move from elementary school to middle school. We provide cake (last year included specialty cookies due to COVID), drinks, decorations, etc. and also support setup and takedown. We are looking for volunteers to coordinate this year's event! Please email membership@islandviewpta.org if you are interested.

ISV Support Opportunities

Fundraising

It's easy to help the Island View PTA raise funds throughout the year, via shopping you're probably already doing! These include Box Tops and Amazon Smile. In fact, so far this year, we've earned $23.80 through Box Tops and $74.51 through Amazon Smile! Instructions on how to participate in each of these programs - at no additional cost to your family - are below.

Teacher Wish Lists

We can tell that all our teachers at Island View love what they do! 🦅 They love our young Eagles and it shows in everything they give to our students.

❤️ THANK YOU teachers for all you do!!❤️

If you are able, please consider giving back to our amazing teachers by clearing 1 or more items from any of the teachers' lists - it goes a long way towards helping our students have a successful year!

Visit islandviewpta.org/wishlist to shop teacher classroom wishlists.

THANK YOU to everyone for your help with clearing the lists!!
