Principal's Message

Island View Families:

As we welcomed students back into the building this month, I stand in awe of our school community. Staff are working together to ensure students are safe and nurtured, and families are showing patience and grace by following our guidelines and protocols. Thank you for your positive partnership.

Yet, I must admit I am not surprised. Afterall, we are the proud, soarin’ Island View eagles. 😊

I have spent every free moment I can muster in classrooms, and your children are inspiring. They wear masks when they would rather not wear them. They keep calm bodies and socially distance from their peers. They joyfully engage in learning. Every time I walk into a classroom and watch our talented staff work with your gifted students, I am reminded that loving relationships form the heart of education. We understand that heart at Island View.

Because we realize the importance of relationships, the Island View staff has created a staff Charter, which codifies how we want to feel at school and how we want to make others feel. Below is a draft of our charter:

As staff at Island View Elementary School, we want to create a work environment that helps us feel:

  • VALUED
  • SAFE
  • SUPPORTED
  • INSPIRED
  • CONTENT
  • COLLABORATIVE

We believe if adults in the building nurture these feelings, our students will thrive. Ultimately, that is our primary hope. If there is anything we can do to help your student thrive at this time, please reach out to me at bhanrahan@asd103.org or at 360-503-1490.

I wish you a Happy Thanksgiving. Enjoy your family. Make memories. And stay well-

Brian Hanrahan

WELCOME BACK K-3!

Monday, November 2 was filled with many memorable moments as K-3 Island View students returned to in-person learning. HUGE thanks go out to Rachel Esposito, Stacey Mahoney, and Jenessa Eelkema for showing up early Monday to decorate before staff and students arrived at school. Also, deepest thanks to all those that 'chalked the walk' around Island View on Sunday, November 1 to share love with students and staff.

We will decorate again when our 4th and 5th graders return to in-person learning, whenever that will be. If you'd like to help out, please email membership@islandviewpta.org.

CELEBRATE the Season

Every year, the Anacortes Schools Foundation throws their "Celebrate the Season" event to raise money in support of ASD students. This year, funds are being raised to support COVID-19 Relief, Mental Health supports, STEM Programs, Visual and Performing Arts Programs, Impact Summer School, Preschool Scholarships and more!

Your help is needed! Island View PTA will be contributing a fun 'Some Like it Hot' ensemble of firepit-themed accessories. See this sign-up to be a part of the hottest auction item this year.

Thank you to all those students that submitted artwork for the ASF Celebrate the Season Student Art Contest. Among so many wonderful submissions, three Island View students will have work included in this year's auction. Congratulations to Olive B., Sophia N., and Maya H, and check out this video about all the district winners!
